WHAT IS LIFE?

WHAT IS LIFE?

PATH TO LIFE SUCCESS

“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life, fight for it.”

The Energy of One

‘The Energy of One’ - Path To Life Success

The Marine Conservation Institute saves life in the deep seas all over the world. Coral reefs, they say, are being destroyed by bad fishing practices because the huge reefs can’t be seen underwater by humans – so they can’t get protection. The group’s recent email is titled, “How do we save what we can’t see?”

Today, on the feast of the Holy Trinity, we might ask, “How do we save and protect the deep meaning of the Trinity, when we can’t see or really understand it?” St. Patrick used the famous shamrock, showing how three leaves on one stem could mirror three Persons in One God. Can you think of some better images?

The very nature of the Trinity is an explosive, constantly renewing exchange of the sacred energy of love in and among the Creator God, in Jesus, and in the Holy Spirit. To see the Trinity would be like seeing the biggest nuclear fusion reaction the world has ever known! Do we always feel this explosive power pouring itself out into us? Maybe not. But the Passion of Jesus comes from that power Source; and the Trinity is also powering our own passion in trying to bring the Gospel to the world around us.

We only experience the Trinity by creating community with others. So the desire we always have to form relationships with each other is a direct result of our being created in the image of the Trinity! It’s a dance which needs a partner. Desert retreats and pilgrimages are not the primary way to discover God. Work with other’s, love God’s children, interact with God’s people in the marketplace if you want to touch God. Let the dance begin!

Everyone of us is called upon to be a leader or show leadership in some capacity at some point in our lives. Whether it be in our own home, our neighborhood, our community, a church or spiritual setting, a volunteer organization, a corporate setting or a business of our own. We only experience true Leadership by creating community with others and letting the dance begin. Feel the explosive energy,  feel the passion, experience the Power Source!

SOAR WITH THE EAGLE

SOAR WITH THE EAGLE – PATH TO LIFE SUCCESS

The majestic Eagle! The eagle soars through the skies with power, grace and beauty. The eagle symbolizes courage, strength, spirit, wisdom, freedom, meditation, perspective, vision, insight, balance and connection with a higher power.

… but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint.    ISAIAH 40:31

The eagle epitomizes or embodies the spirit and essential characteristics of Leadership and Entrepreneurship. In general, the eagle enjoys the reputation as the “King of  Birds”, while the North American Bald Eagle, the national symbol of the United States government, has been a powerful symbol of the country’s role as leader of the free world.

The bald eagle was chosen as the emblem of the United States of America on June 20, 1782 because of this great strength, courage, long life and majestic look. The eagle is a symbol of freedom, living on the tops of lofty mountains(peaks) and sweeping into the valleys below amid the solitary grandeur of nature.

In his book, ‘Peaks and Valleys’, Spencer Johnson, M.D. defines Peaks and Valleys in life. He states; Peaks are moments when you appreciate what you have…Valleys are moments when you long for what is missing. In ‘Authentic Leadership’, Bill George states,”Although we may be born with leadership potential, all of us have to develop ourselves to become good leaders.” It would seem that a leadership development process must take place to grow, cultivate and develop leadership ability. Just like the eagle who acquires great strength, courage, spirit and wisdom while majestically sweeping to lofty peaks and valleys, we too must develop into leaders who possess the characteristics of the eagle! Kouzes and Posner in The Leadership Challenge said, “What we have discovered and rediscovered, is that leadership is not the private reserve of a few charismatic men and women. It is a process ordinary people use when they are bringing forth the best from themselves and others. What we’ve discovered is that people make extraordinary things happen by liberating the leader within everyone.”

In their book, ‘Launching A Leadership Revolution’, Chris Brady and Orrin Woodward identify ‘The Cycle of Achievement’ and the components of this cycle. The Cycle of Achievement includes:

  1. Vision
  2. Goal Setting
  3. Game Planning
  4. Working
  5. Seeking Counsel

When one reflects and focuses on the above characteristics of the eagle we gain much insight into ‘The Cycle of Achievement’  and the qualities and characteristics which allow a leader to soar with the eagle. The eagle has razor sharp vision, can see great distances and can look directly into the sun without being blinded. A leader must not be blinded and it is of paramount importance to have a very clear vision of tomorrow’s reality. Kouses and Posner said, “Leaders inspire a shared vision. They gaze across the horizon of time, imagining the attractive opportunities that are in store when they and their constituents arrive at a distant destination. Leaders have a desire to make something happen, to change the way things are, to create something that no one else has ever created before. In some ways leaders live their lives backwards. They see pictures in their mind’s eye of what the results will look like even before they’ve started their project, much as an architect draws a blueprint or an engineer builds a model.” The spirit of the eagle personified!

The spirit of the eagle is a symbol to many cultures. Eagles are represented in numerous artifacts and legends of Native Americans. Some tribes considered it to be the Great Spirit itself and the bird whose feathers were given as great prizes was sometimes referred to as the Thunderbird because of its propensity to spread its wings and fly directly into the powerful updrafts as storms approach. Just like the eagle, a Leader must spread their wings and fly straight into the storm and meet the challenge to grow, develop and to augment the growth and development of his/her team.

To the Chinese culture the eagle is a symbol of strength. An eagle shown perched in a pine tree is a respected gift to an older man. This gift wishing him the strength of an eagle and longevity of a pine-tree. In Greek culture the eagle is often seen as Zeus’s carrier of thunder and was thought to be the only bird living on Mt. Olympus. It is depicted as a symbol of leadership. References to Eagles is made in great numbers in Christian literature. During the Exodus, God bore Israel safely away from the Egyptians upon eagle’s wings (Exodus 19:4). The early Judean  church was granted the “wings of a great eagle” to flee from the siege in Jerusalem in 70 A.D.: Saul and Jonathan were “swifter than eagles” (2 Samuel 1:23).

Empower the  grace, beauty, courage, passion, wisdom, freedom, power and strength of the majestic eagle on your Leadership and Entrepreneurship Journey!

NEED For STRONG TEAM LEADERSHIP

NEED For STRONG TEAM LEADERSHIP — PATH TO LIFE SUCCESS

Some team leaders or managers bend over backwards to make team/group meetings happy; other leaders try equally as hard to make their meetings sweat sessions of tensions and nerves. Research indicates that neither approach is particularly effective. Studies show that:

  • To be most effective, teams require mutual trust and respect, but not necessarily close personal relationships.
  • Teams that are highly productive are described as highly satisfying by team members. The emphasis is on producing achievable results and people enjoy being on a winning team.

Trust, respect, and productivity are the hallmarks of the skilled team leader and enrich the climate of team meetings.

The better the leadership, the more efficiently the team works. What makes a strong team leader has changed over the years.

Research now shows that variations on the old army approach of “I order and you jump” usually doesn’t work well on most teams and in most organizations. While effective team leaders still take ultimate responsibility for the outcome:

  • they involve and empower others to the greatest degree possible, and —
  • they allow control to shift during the team meeting so that different people are given a leadership role. When someone makes a suggestion, gives valuable opinions, encourages a colleague, or resolves a conflict, at that moment, they are allowed to provide leadership to the team.

This active involvement and shared leadership by team members has proven to generate better decisions and to build higher team commitment to making those decisions work out successfully.

Strong Team Leadership today includes the ability to bring people out, empower them and to get them actively involved!

A large body of research shows that most team leaders are unaware of how much their teams defer to them. Leaders can easily influence the outcome of team decisions more than they realize (in a lot of cases).

Mistake Number One: Less effective leaders talk too much and demand too much air time for themselves. They insist upon center stage. Unfortunately, the more ‘on’ they are, the more they turn their team members off. Less effective leaders speak out too much, too soon. Be careful about stating your opinion too strongly, or as if it is FACT, at the beginning of a meeting…unless you simply want everyone else to bow to your wishes. (not!)

Mistake Number Two: Less effective leaders try to control too much, period! And it’s not necessarily all verbal. The old adage “Actions speak louder than words’ is true. Team members soon pick up the underlying message if the leader, in one way or another, is planning on pulling all of the strings. They often tune out in return, and tell their leader only what he or she wants to here.

Leadership Values To Consider:

  1. Leaders are responsible for maintaining and enhancing the self-esteem of team members.
  2. Leaders must invite active participation. Highest team decisions come only when the resources of the team are effectively utilized.
  3. Without leadership trust toward team members, high-quality output rarely happens.
  4. Leaders must establish two-way open communication.
  5. Leaders are not threatened by a team. They emphasize teamwork. They encourage mutual support. They do not attempt to divide and conquer. They build a strong sense of team and pride.
  6. Effective leaders expect only the best! Their goals are high. Effective leaders demonstrate excellence!
